A Health Fair draws attention to your business and what it offers,
so that potential customers (buyers) will be aware of your business
and purchase your goods and/or services. You are also providing an
important public service!
Why have a Health Fair?
You will provide much-needed information to seniors, caregivers, and
family members of seniors.
This is also an excellent way to showcase your facility! You will always
draw 3 audiences to your Fair:
Residents of your community love this new and big activity.
They walk away with fun give-aways and information, and will
talk about it for days!
Local residents and businesses will learn who you are
for the first time, or learn more than they already knew.
Your lead/prospect database! You will attract the very people
you desire the most to consider coming to your community.
Who attends these Fairs?
The audience is threefold: seniors, family members of seniors,
and caregivers of seniors:
Seniors
Seniors vary by age, and from community to community.
These people attend Health and Wellness Fairs for a myriad
of reasons, including:
Learning
How to maintain their existing good health.
How to slow down a particular pain,
ailment, or motion that is bothering them.
Find new ideas about illness-avoidance that are of
personal interest due to family history or general
personal concern
Curiosity
They might have inquired about something
in the past that was of mild interest, but due
to a pain or concern, is now of prime interest!
They have continual interest in keeping on top of
the latest health offerings.
General Activity
Some seniors simply enjoy getting out and
exploring. They don’t have a particular end-goal
other than to get a little walking exercise, getting
out of the house, and socializing.
Family Members of Seniors
Family members of seniors attend these Fairs in large
numbers. These are manytimes “boomers” concerned about
their parent’s health. Their parents may have already become
less-mobile or less-able than in the past, and these family
members feel the need to assist their parents of loved ones
so as to postpone a health issue, slow down a health issue,
eliminate a health issue or at the very least, slow it down or
learn how to deal with it. This group will have very specific
questions and goals in mind at the Fair. They will want to be
able to go into some details and may have already done some
good homework on their own.
Caregivers of Seniors
Caregivers of seniors come in at least two basic varieties:
Professional caregivers are generally the Certified
Nursing Assistants (CNAs) or Registered Nurses
(RNs) who are paid to care for the senior. These
caregivers are trained to provide specific care as
defined in a Plan of Care written by the family and
the caregiver. Hours of care can vary from a few
hours a day to 24/7 care.
Family member caregivers are a large group of
people and are generally non-paid workers. They
are the spouse, the brother or sister, the child, the
aunt or uncle, or the grandchild, etc. who usually
provide un-trained care for their loved-one. Through
reading and attending events like a Health and
Wellness Fair, these caregivers increase their
knowledge base, and become better caregivers.
Problems can occur with this group from burnout,
lack of knowledge, and even anger and resentment.
These people will want to talk about their caregiving
tasks, and want helpful hints and suggestions. These
caregivers are prime candidates for products and
services that focus on them, or provide some respite.
Vendors! Vendors provide information about goods and
services aimed at seniors. Therefore, this is a wonderful
group of professional colleagues for other vendors to
meet. Business is done via vendors at Health Fairs!
